All the memories came flooding back to me. The first time I’d visited Candlefield cemetery, many years ago, was for the funeral of my birth mother. That was just a matter of days after I’d stood by her deathbed, and she’d uttered the words that were to change my life forever: You’re a witch.

I almost hadn’t made it to the funeral that day because I’d been unable to find my way to Candlefield in the car. As a result, I’d arrived too late for the actual ceremony. It had been a grey, rainy day—befitting really.

So much had happened since then. I was now considered one of the most powerful witches in Candlefield, and I was married with a beautiful daughter. What would have happened, I wondered, if I’d decided not to attend the funeral? If I’d rejected the notion that I was a witch? Knowing Aunt Lucy as I now did, I doubt she would have given up on me.

Did I have any regrets? If I could go back to my old life—the one before I discovered I was a witch—would I? That was an easy question to answer. Emphatically no. I loved being a witch. I loved my family, both human and sup. I wouldn’t change a thing.
